You know you have a real “city” dog, when your dog can go to the bathroom right there in the middle of the sidewalk. ¬†Cause really, who needs grass anyway? ¬†Despite living nearly his entire life in Toronto, Tim has never, ever pooped on the sidewalk. ¬†Until yesterday.

What an achievement! ¬†I have to admit I’m quite thrilled actually, cause sometimes when you’re out, its tough to find a suitable patch of grass. ¬†And it can get quite annoying as we search up and down for just the right “spot”, only having a small boulevard to choose from. ¬†So its just another small success in our little puppy lives.

How many times have you been walking in the dog park, or even around town, and you’ve stepped into a hot mess? ¬†It’s happened to me more than once, and its pretty much the worst feeling ever. ¬†Attempting to scrape your shoe clean with sticks and refuse, all the while seething with rage at the inconsiderate pet owner – its a bad scene! ¬†I’m so passionate about picking up after your pet, I’ve even assembled leaves and other garbage to pick up some of Timmy’s more unexpected BMs.

But hey, we all know shit happens, right? ¬† Well, it happened to me today. ¬†I saw Timmy going, but the time I got over there with bag in hand, I simply couldn’t find it! ¬†The grass has been growing furiously with the rain and sun we’ve had, and despite my best effort, that shit was¬†camouflaged. ¬†I spent a good 4 minutes looking for it, stepping gingerly around, and rooting through weeds. ¬† This litle treasure hunt made me wonder – At what point do you give up looking for dog poop? ¬†Will you look longer and harder if other people are around? ¬†Therefore: A Poll!

Oh poop!

I don’t know how it happens, but for some reason when you become a dog owner, you tend to also become an expert on poop. ¬†And you talk about it, with strangers. ¬† A comment on a previous poopy post also prompted me to write about the slightly embarrassing, and mostly hilarious incident that occurred today.

As many of you know, we have  just moved into the Thompson Hotel condo we bought pre-construction about 3 years ago.  While we are living here, we are also dealing with a large number of construction deficiencies.  This means that on a regular basis, tradesmen are coming in and out of the unit to conduct repairs and inspections.  Their boss, Jeff, came into the unit today with a master list to see what issues were completed, and which still needed attention.  Going from room to room, he ended up in the bathroom.  I joined him there after a few minutes, and noticed a rather pungent smell.  I thought he had farted.  Or more accurately, sharted.  It was nasty.  And I was kinda pissed, cause, like DUDE!  Could you not have waited 5 minutes till you left before letting something like that OUT?!

Then we went to inspect the shower, where I immediately noticed a huge pile of doggie diarrhea.  And. It. Smelled. HORRID!

Jeff and I both looked at each other and said, “I thought that was YOU!” ¬† Hahaha. ¬†At least we had a laugh over it! ¬†And I think we were both secretly relieved that it hadn’t been the fault of the other!

I was so horrified as I stooped to clean it up while he continued his inspection. ¬†He didn’t seem too fazed though, and let me know that with his dog, he had seen it ALL! ¬†Made me feel a bit better anyway! ¬† Another one for the recordbooks! ¬†Thanks Tim!

Manchester Friends!

Today we had the good fortune to run into some fellow Manchesters!  We were at Stanley Park between King St and Wellington, when we ran into Ola, who is a training instructor at Mother Knows Best, with her friend, and her dogs, Dumo and Penny.  They are Standard Manchesters, and as you can see, they very in size. What a treat to run into such friends!

Of course I had to snap a picture…Timmy is on the right side (the one itching to get away and play)

New FriendsAren’t they just the sweetest things?¬† I was surprised at the size of Dumo compared to Timmy…he was so regal and sweet!¬† I also stepped on dog poop, which got on my bare foot.¬† I would like to believe that a little doggie snuck away and did this without their owners’ knowledge…I refuse to believe someone failed to stoop and scoop!¬† That would be just too rude!

While Grandma Hurren was in Toronto visiting us this weekend, she kindly brought a little gift for her new grandpuppy.

It was a set of doggie “door” bells.¬† You see, part of the challenge of training a dog to use the bathroom outside is having them let you know when they have to go.¬† These bells are hung on, or near the door, and all the dog has to do to be let outside is ring them by nudging them with their paw or nose.¬† I had done a trial run with Tim only about 3 times this weekend.

So tonight, Mike and I were sitting having dinner when Tim gets off his bed, walks over to the bells, rings them, and then proceeds outside the already open door to take a poop on his mat!

It was MIRACULOUS!  I nearly cried, honestly.  It was so amazing, we could not believe our eyes.

I really think we may have the smartest dog in the whole world!!!

And a big thank you to Grandma Hurren for such a great tool!

So…You Know that Bag Dispenser?

So, Mikey and I are watching TV last night and he turns to me and says, “Um, I think I did a bad thing”.

“What do you mean”, I responded, thinking the worst.

“Well, you know that dog poop bag dispenser at 60 Lofts?”¬†

“Yes”, I reply.

“Well, you know how you pull the bags out of the bottom of the dispenser right?¬† Well, what do you think the open part at the top is for?” he asks.

“Putting in new bags”, I responded.

Silence.

“You put Tim Tam’s poop in there, didn’t you?”

“I think so.” He responded.

So…if there are any dog-owning residents of 60 Lofts in Toronto, we warn you of potentially poopy occurrences, and sincerely apologize.¬† It won’t happen again!
