Well, by all accounts Timmy made it through the surgery very well.  We went to pick him up at 11 am Saturday, and was he ever excited to see us!  It was just like the old Timmy!  We walked home from Bloor St, with him taking only one massive dump on the sidewalk on the way.

Tim spent most of the day cuddled up with me on the couch, not moving around too much.  This was good, as the vet told us to keep him as quiet and relaxed as possible.  He would get up for a few minutes at a time, go for a little walk, come back and sleep some more.

Around 2 pm he had “The D” on the back patio. ¬†And then again around 7 when I was out getting groceries. ¬†Nasty!

Everything was back to normal, until about 2 am when his crying woke me up. ¬†I knew something was up, so I took him downstairs, where he immediately ran for the door and had some more “D” outside. ¬†We headed back to bed. ¬†Around 4 I woke up to him puking his guts out in his crate. ¬†Poor guy. ¬† Mike took him downstairs while I cleaned up…and he had another bout of the D then too! ¬†Needless to say, I was getting quite worried. ¬†I’ve never had a dog before, but I have heard they can get bouts of illness like this that will eventually pass. ¬†I felt so bad for the little guy because he had had his balls removed, and made a mess of the patio, which he was clearly embarassed about. ¬†Mike slept with him on the couch for the rest of the night.

Anyway, this morning he ate normally, which was great because I could only give him the pain pills with food.  Today he seems in great spirits and just like his old self!  Hopefully he will continue to feel better and better!

UPDATE: Timmy made it through surgery like a champ.¬† He is already up and about…and ready to come home!¬† Updates tomorrow on the little guy!

Its a dark day in the O’Hurren household.¬† You see, today Timmy is getting fixed.¬† I hate the term “fixed” because it implies something is broken, and of course, Timmy is perfect and in no need of repairs!¬† Aside from having signed a non-breeding contract with our breeder, I do know that it is the responsible thing to do as a pet owner.¬† Bob Barker himself reminded us daily to “Spay and neuter your pets”, so it must be good!¬† Neutering can be really beneficial for male dogs in terms of reducing marking, aggression, and territorial behaviours. This was beginning to become an issue with Timmy, so this cannot come too soon!

I am a bit nervous because it is surgery after all, but I know its very routine, Tim is a healthy pup, and our vet is qualified and responsible.¬† We are dropping him off at 8:30 am, and we will pick him up Saturday after 9:30…ball free.¬†¬† I have to admit I’m kind of looking forward to a “night off”, not to mention a sleep in on Saturday!¬† haha.

I’ll send an update to everyone Saturday! In the meantime, here is a cute pic of Timmy at the park this week:

Mike and I went to visit our friends Laura and Scott and their family ¬†in Peterborough this weekend.¬† I was a bit nervous about this trip because Tim has never really spent much time with kids before, and anytime he sees them on the street he goes nuts.¬† Laura and Scott have a son who is just over 1 year old, so I was prepared for a badly behaved doggie.¬† I had no need to be worried.¬† He barked a couple times when Luke came into the room, and then he was fine!¬† He was curious, and smelled him a lot, but he seemed to enjoy following him around.¬† Luke thowing balls for Tim was one of the cutest things ever!¬†¬† I’m sorry I didn’t get any photos!¬†

Laura and Scott ¬†also have a Sheltie, who is a super sweet dog, so I wasn’t nervous about that!¬†¬†They have a fully enclosed yard, so Tim and Seamus could just run around to their hearts content.¬† I think Seamus will have a Tim Tam hangover from all the running around!

Here are some poor-quality pics I took with my blackberry:

The Great Escape

Well, we had our first family crisis today.

I was at work when Mary from our vet’s office called, saying that that someone had “found your dog”.

I’m sorry…what?? ¬† I didn’t even know he was missing!!! My stomach just dropped. ¬† Apparently, Tim had escaped from his dog walker sometime around noon. ¬†We are still unsure how this happened, but rest assured…we are in the process of finding out. ¬†Anyway,¬†Mary gave me the number of Allan, Tim’s rescurer, to call and pick up Timmy. ¬†Mary also reassured me that he was in perfect health. ¬†Allan had called the number of the vet on Tim’s dog tag, and they promptly tracked us down. ¬†Thank god for that.

I called Allan immediately and found out that he had spent almost an hour trying to catch Tim on Lakeshore Blvd.  For those of you that know Toronto, you will know that Lakeshore is an incredibly busy thoroughfare for the whole city, especially during lunch hour on a weekday.  Allan saw Tim running back and forth between 4 lanes of traffic at the intersection of Lakeshore W and Bathurst, finally following him in his car to an abandoned factory.  At this point, Tim slips through the bottom of a fence and is lost again.  This man climed a 9 ft fence, and patiently waited for the dog to approach him.  That alone took almost 30 mins.  Eventually he and his girlfriend caught Tim and took him to their house.

Mike and I immediately left work and went to pick him up. ¬†We arrived to find a perfectly healthy and happy Tim wrestling with Allan’s dog in the living room. Tim ran up to me as if to say “Hey ma! ¬†Whats up? Welcome to the party! ¬†I’ve just had a super fun adventure!”.

Needless to say, we are GRATEFUL.  There are still really good people in this world, who go out of the way for others.  Without Allan today, this escape could have had a very different ending.  We might have had a sleepless night, wondering if our little guy was dead, alive, injured, etc. etc. etc.

All we can really say is THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU…

Class Review

So we had our first class at Mother Knows Best last Tuesday. ¬†It was AMAZING.¬† As you know, we had already taken little Timmy to a puppy training class at a different place. ¬†I thought this would be a repeat of more of the same and we wouldn’t learn anything new. ¬†I was SO wrong. ¬†The owner, Dorothy, is a kooky lady who knows her stuff. ¬†She said that from the FIRST class with her, your dog will be 75% to 90% better at walking on lead without pulling. ¬†“Yeah right”, I thought.

We bought the Martingale collar that she recommended, and gave the class a try. ¬†Most other classes start the dogs off with “sit” commands. ¬†Not Dorothy. ¬†We began with heeling, and true to her word, little Timmy has seen a vast improvement after only 1 class!¬† NO pulling while walking at all!
Its cheaper than many other classes in Toronto, is located right downtown, and is already giving great results.  This is serious business, and I cannot wait for the next class tomorrow!

If A Doggie Barks in the Woods…

…it turns out the whole lake hears it for miles, and miles, and miles!¬† While Tim definitely enjoyed the outdoors, all the excitment lead to quite a lot of barking!¬† While annoying, he handled himself SO well up at the cottage.¬† The family was amazed at how quickly and comfortably he adapted to cottage life.¬† Chasing red squirrels, chipmunks, flies and dragonflies was just many of the activites Tim enjoyed.¬† He was great on the boat, and took naps while we fished.¬† He hiked trails with us, and never strayed far.¬† By far the best thing however, was his doggie lifejacket!¬† At it turns out the handle was quite useful for getting him in and out of the boat safely!

Off to the Cottage!

We will be experiencing another “first” this weekend as a family.¬† The O’Hurren’s are going to the cottage!¬† I am careful not to use the term “cottaging” anymore, because apparently it is a term that actually refers to gay sex in a public bathroom.¬† We are most definitely NOT doing that¬†this weekend.¬† Rather, we are driving up to our family place outside Kingston to get a little R&R, post wedding.¬†

I am going to get Timmy a lifejacket.  While most people think this is nuts because dogs are pretty good swimmers, I think its cute!  Besides, he is so small and black, that if he were to fall in, you would never see him without a little neon flotation device! I have my fingers crossed that he likes the water!  I have my dad rigging up a bit line too so he can wander freely without going too far and getting lost.  Its all going to be quite exciting!  Just imagine all the various poops to smell?!
