Bringing Home Puppy

So…We’re Going to be Parents!

Well after years of wanting one, and another year of research, we’ve decided to take the leap and get…a dog!

Because I’ve never had a dog before, I took pains to research all breeds, trying to discover the type of dog which will fit our busy, urban, condo life the best.  The result: The Manchester Terrier.  This little guy is a typical terrier, bred for ratting.  The difference…its activity level!  Preferring to stick around the house with its owners, we felt we could give this little guy the level of exercise and activity it would need to be a happy, healthy pup.  You may ask, why did we not adopt from a shelter?  To be honest, I have always been a huge proponent of rescuing animals in need.  I know there are literally MILLIONS of great pets that need homes.  However, I looked at the Toronto Humane Society, Chatham Humane Society etc., and found that most dogs available were adults, either German Shepherds, or Staffordshire Terriers.  This may be fine for some pet owners, but as a first timer, I don’t think I’m prepared to take on the huge task of “rehabilitating”.  So, we’re starting from scratch!

This blog will detail the first year in the life of our pup…from preparing for his arrival, to crate training and housebreaking.

Be prepared for the joys, frustrations and possibly even the tears of the first time dog owner!
