It was nice to get back to work today…I was ready for a break from being a house mom.  I don’t know how “real” stay at home mom’s do it!  Its freaking exahusting!  As Mike said, “How is it fair that when I have to work, he cries all night, and when YOU have to work he’s totally cool!?”  Meh.  Beginners luck maybe…we’ll see how tonight goes!

It was funny to be at work though and realize you miss your little guy already!

Mike is off for the rest of the week to do his own bonding with Timmy, and today went rather well.  Unfortunately this teeny little dog is cold at the best of times, and in the rain he is completely miserable – which means getting him to do his business outdoors is pretty damn hard!

So, instead he’ll just pee and poo in the house!  Simple solution, no?

Anyway, it was so great to come home to not one, but TWO sweet and smiley boys at the end of the day!

You’ll all be relieved to know that last night with Tim Tam was wonderful!  Mike tired him out and did not let him sleep from 6 pm onward.  He was so tired he was literally falling asleep standing up.  Finally, he crawled into his crate and fell into a deep sleep.  Although it was only 10:15, we took the opportunity and went to bed immediately.  He didn’t even wake up when we moved the crate from downstairs to our bedroom!

He began whining around 12, but immediately calmed down and went to sleep.  Mikey took him out for a quick pee at 3, and immediately back to bed.

I had to wake HIM up at 6:45!  It was great! I’m trying not to get my hopes up for tonight, but its quite exciting!

So, the gong theory did NOT work last night.  At ALL.

I guess we just got lucky on Monday.  I know you’re not supposed to comfort the dog (ignore bad behaviour), until he stops crying….but what if he never does?!

Everyone says this time will pass, and god, I hope that’s soon!

The only thing keeping me going is his sweet and cuddly nature (during the day).

He’s getting good at peeing in his spot…we’re still working on #2.

Any advice, my dear readers, would be appreciated!

The Gong Show

My main concern for Tim Tam was reducing his fear at night while we slept.

Becky had told us that a dirty sock filled with rice and microwaved really help Sousa settle in.  So we put him in his crate-  on the floor next to me and made his dirty rice bag.

And it seemed to work.  For like, 5 minutes.

And then the whimpering started.

Luckily, I had read in more than one book that a little bit of loud noise will startle them out of the whimper, and teach them that when they cry, bad things happen.  The key is, they aren’t supposed to know the sound is coming from you.  So, I rigged up a gong.  Using a wooden spatula and an upturned mixing bowl, I had to use the gong only 3 times last night!  Not too shabby!

We went to bed at 11:30, and I got up at 5 for our FIRST OUTDOOR PEE AND POO!   Victory!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets just hope we can keep this up…at the moment Mike is falling asleep at his desk at work, and I’m attempting to find an intravenous coffee-drip line, but we’ll manage!

Good times!

I am so in love!

So we managed to get Tim Tam home from the airport yesterday, no problem, and he is even smaller and cuter than I had imagined!

I would love to post some pics, but our camera is on the fritz, so I’ll have to wait for the MikeMang to get  home from work.

He is a lovely little guy, who was immediately snooping around the house and exploring.  That is, until he realized his buddies weren’here with him.  I think he had a moment or two of depression and fear, but he seems to have really warmed up to us.  At this point his favourite thing is watching tv on my chest and sleeping.  So thats fun!

Not much of an appetite today, which is why the massive dump he left me on the floor took me by surprise.  It had to account for at least %2 of his total body weight.  Ahh…puppy’s first poop!

Let the adventures begin!

So I made it up to Petsmart at Eglington E….It was the first time I’d ever been up that way before, so it was a little scary.

But I found my way, and was able to pick up a puppy Kong, a teeny tiny harness, and the now (in)famous Pet Yard.

We’re ready!
We’re ready!

Yippee!!!

The Scene: Our bedroom

The Time: This morning, around 7:30

Mike is getting ready for work, putting on suitpants, jacket.  He turns to me and says “Should I wear a tie today”?

“Why would you?”, I respond.

“To create a good first impression when I meet Tim Tam”

“No Mike, I don’t think that will be necessary”.
