When we first applied to get Timmy, our breeder said that due to his super short coat, we would end up spending more money on clothes for him than we would for ourselves. I didn’t realize how true that would become! We have resisted dressing him up thus far. Well, the lifejacket doesnt count…really.
But now that fall is seriously upon us, poor little Timmy just shakes and shivers when we are out on our walks. We are going to have to get him a sweater and likely a jacket too! I popped into our local place, Timmy Doggie Outfitters, and they had some seriously cute stuff. And it was outrageous! $85 for a DOG JACKET?! Are you serious?! In talking with my new friends at the dog park, I have learned there is a great dog store at Vaughan Mills that sells the same clothes as Timmie’s, but much, much cheaper. So maybe we’ll try that. Or I’ll take a risk and check out whats available online.
Any tips would be helpful! (PS – I can’t knit or sew, so don’t suggest I make anything myself! Lol)

I attempted to take a couple pics of Timmy playing with his friend Stitch, but they are crummy.
I guess I’ll post them anyway…

It took a long time, but now our little pup Timmy is confidently able to manoeuvre the main stairs in the building, the stairs at the park, and the stairs pretty much everywhere. Except the ones in our house. This likely goes back to the little fall he had when he was just learning. Since then, Mike has been working tirelessly trying to build up his confidence by helping him up the last few stairs every night. We still have a lot of progress to make though. Well…at least we thought so!
Last night we were getting ready for bed upstairs, leaving Timmy downstairs to play. I had just gone into the bedroom to moisturize, when I heard the unmistakable sound of dog claws on hardwood. I whipped around and saw little Timmy running down the hall towards me! He did it! All by himself!!!
We were so proud. And, of course, now he is just showing off by following us around the house, upstairs and down. He even managed to make it upstairs with his bone! It was miraculous really.
And now we realize our shoe-hiding place on the stairs is no longer safe! Now we will actually have to clean up after ourselves and put them away! *groan*

One of our favourite activities to do on the weekends is head to the dog park with coffee in hand for some serious exercise (for the dog…not for us!) Lately on the weekends we’ve been going to Trinity-Bellwoods because it has a fun crowd, is usually quite busy, its large and has lots of trees for the humans to stand under. At Trinity Timmy just runs and runs and runs. Until today.
Timmy had just completed his business on a hill when he came over to me, limping. He was trying to lick his paw and then he started to cry. We took him to a quiet corner and tried to examine him. He tried to bite us and yelped in pain. It was so sad! Almost instantly the paw began to swell up. Saturday at 1:30. Our choices: Go to the local vet hospital (across the street) before closing time, or wait and see if it improves and risk having to cab up to the after hours emerg later this weekend. We opted for #1. We popped into Queen W. Animal Hospital and asked if they could see us. We aren’t patients there, but after our experience, we would definitely consider it. They squeezed us in after the clinic closed at 2, and were so friendly and caring to our little pup. He had to be muzzled while they checked for a break or puncture wound, just in case, and the whole time the paw swelled steadily.
In the end, it seems he was simply stung by a bee. He got a shot of Benadryl, and instructions for his care over the next few days. $130 later, we have a healthy, and dozy pup! Looks like its going to be a quiet weekend for us!
I lifted this pic from http://smallandbig.blogspot.com. He has got some great little stories and pics about his Manchester, Godzilla.
Timmy is my first dog. I had wanted a dog my whole life. I begged, and begged, and begged my parents to get me one. Of course I would walk it everyday! Of course I would feed it! Duh! After years, they gave in, and finally got me… a cat. Now, I will be the first one to tell you that I loved that cat. He was friendly, low maintenance, and so sweet. And as most of my cat-hater friends will tell you, he was the only cat they ever liked. When he died after a good long life, it was pretty sad. This cat knew when I was coming home from University, because the day before he would start to sleep in my bed. He slept with me all winter, and was always quite excited whenever I came home (well, as excited as a cat can get, which is basically just getting up from a nap and looking at you).
I always knew getting a dog would be different, and in many ways it is. Its a heck of a lot more work. Like a lot more. Getting up in the morning and walking the dog, particularly on the weekends can be a bit of a bummer. Lord help me once winter hits! That being said, seeing your little doggie growing up and learning is so much fun. Having him be falling over with excitment when you get home from work, or even back from the next room is such a great feeling, and it can bring you out of any kind of bad mood.
So its been fun. Challenging, yes. But just so much fun.
